Monday, March 5, 2012, Relationship Skills for Couples: Intimacy and Caring. In this workshop we’ll describe and demonstrate different forms of partner social support, and explain how support needs can vary from situation to situation. We’ll examine the importance of showing caring in couple relationships, and how partners vary widely in their preferred ways of expressing caring. Finally, we’ll discuss the importance of individual time and couple time, and the need to balance time use.

Monday, April 16, 2012, Relationship Skills for Couples: Managing Differences. Differences are a normal part of any relationship. Effective communication helps to manage and resolve differences. In this session, we’ll review a range of strategies for managing conflict. We’ll discover how couples can recover after conflict and prevent it from having major long-term negative consequences.

Monday, May 14, 2012, Relationship Skills for Couples: Sexuality. In this workshop we’ll examine the strong association between sexual satisfaction and relationship satisfaction, and demonstrate the role of effective communication in fostering sexual satisfaction. We’ll also discuss how differences in sexual desire can be managed, and how changing life circumstances, such as stress and having children, can impact on sexuality. We’ll describe the nature of common sexual problems. We’ll describe and challenge some common myths that may lead to unrealistic sexual expectations.

About the workshops: We’ll be looking at some of the core ingredients that contribute to healthy and rewarding marriages. We will allow for plenty of time for questions and answers.

Who should attend? Couples or individuals, unmarried, engaged, married, or remarried any number of years; and individuals separated, or divorced; who would like to invest an evening in learning how to sustain and strengthen their relationships.

Registration: Couples or individuals can register online, email, or by calling 503-375-6362. There is no fee for this workshop series. Sorry, we can no longer provide childcare.
